Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has come forward to defend her husband, President Bola Tinubu, against allegations that his administration is responsible for the current economic hardships facing the nation.
Speaking at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, she emphasized that the administration is still in its early stages and should not be blamed for the prevailing economic difficulties.
During her visit to Ife, where she inaugurated a hostel and a 2.7-kilometre road at Obafemi Awolowo University, the First Lady addressed the removal of the fuel subsidy, which has led to a significant increase in petrol prices from N198 to N1,030.
She acknowledged the public's struggles but expressed hope for the future, stating, "We are just two years into our administration. We are not the cause of the current situation. We are trying to fix it and secure the future." Oluremi Tinubu further assured Nigerians that with continued efforts and divine support, the country would see improvements in the coming years. "With God on our side in the next two years, Nigeria will be greater than this," she remarked, highlighting the administration's commitment to building a better future despite the challenges posed by the subsidy removal.
