Protest Break Out at Gombe Govt House as Hunger Crisis Worsens[VIDEO]

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the Gombe Government House on Friday, to vent their displeasure with rising rates of hunger and economic hardship, sparking a huge protest.

The protesters, primarily young adults, chanted slogans demanding urgent action from the government to address the rising cost of living and scarcity of basic food items.

The demonstration, which was initially peaceful, saw a substantial police presence attempting to maintain order.

However, tensions escalated when some protesters began pelting stones at the government house and wreaking havoc in the Jekadafari axis of the Gombe Local Government Area.

This escalation followed a meeting on Tuesday between Governor Muhammadu Yahaya and critical stakeholders, where assurances were given that protests would not occur.

One of the protesters, Hauwa Saleh, expressed the singular motivation behind the protest, stating, "Only hunger, only hunger, that is the only reason we came out." Another protester, speaking through tears, highlighted the dual issues of hunger and lack of water as primary concerns.

The Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the breakdown of law and order but assured that the situation was under control. He noted, "The situation is under control. We are managing the situation; the situation now is relatively calm. We are trying to talk to them so that they can consider dialogue."
