The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to announce its decision on the contentious AFCON qualifying Group D match between Libya and Nigeria this Wednesday.

The match, originally scheduled for October 15 at Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, was marred by controversy when Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles, refused to play.

They cited "inhumane treatment" upon their arrival in Libya, where they were stranded for 18 hours without food or water after their flight was unexpectedly diverted to Labraq Airport.
The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has distanced itself from the incident, claiming that the decision to reroute the Nigerian team's flight was made by Libyan state authorities.
In response to the situation, CAF has demanded detailed explanations from both the LFF and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), with a deadline for documentation submission set for October 20.
The first leg of the qualifier, held in Uyo, Nigeria, ended in a 1-0 victory for the Super Eagles. However, the second leg's cancellation has led to legal threats from the LFF and an investigation by CAF's Disciplinary Committee.
The outcome of this investigation could result in rescheduling the match or imposing sanctions, depending on the findings. As the football community awaits CAF's decision, the incident highlights the operational challenges facing African football.
