The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has initiated a thorough investigation into serious allegations of sodomy involving two of its youth pastors.
This unprecedented situation arose after the controversial blog, Gistlovers, accused the pastors of luring teenage boys into homosexuality.
The blog's claims were supported by a 20-year-old individual who chose to remain anonymous, alleging that the pastors "influenced many into being gay." Pastor Sunday Akande, the National Overseer of RCCG, emphasized the church's commitment to addressing these allegations with due diligence.
"This is the first time an allegation like this has been raised against the church," Akande stated. "If we see anything like this, the church will investigate it and see how we can address it."
In response to the accusations, RCCG has suspended the implicated pastors and established a panel to conduct a comprehensive investigation. Akande noted, "The reason for the suspension is to also allow persons who were said to have been molested or harassed to come forward and testify against the pastors. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has come forward yet as a victim of harassment."
One of the accused pastors has publicly denied the allegations, asserting, "I have never demanded s*x from any male as payment or gratification in order to give them assistance, platforms, or positions." He further explained that discussions within a male teenagers' WhatsApp group focused on topics such as reproductive health and self-esteem, rather than inappropriate conduct.
Meanwhile, the family of one pastor has taken legal action against Gistlovers, filing a petition with the Force Criminal Investigation Department for defamation of character. Their counsel, Adekunle Adeyinka, argued that the allegations were baseless and had caused significant emotional distress and security concerns for their son.
