Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a significant donation of ₦105 million to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State.
This generous act is a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for the support the church provided to his family following the death of his father.
Rema's donation was made during a church service on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The artist expressed his deep appreciation for the church's role in helping his family get back on their feet after they faced severe hardships. "When I was eight years old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone. I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum and that was how she managed to take care of us," Rema shared emotionally.

The breakdown of Rema's donation includes ₦40million for the church's infrastructure, ₦20million for the Rhapsody of Realities, ₦25million for the infrastructure of the teen's church and ₦20million for widows within the church community.
His gesture was captured in a video that has since gone viral online. “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, and prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit,” Rema stated during the service. Currently, Rema is on a homecoming tour in Edo State, where he is set to perform at a highly anticipated concert.
As part of his visit, he attended the groundbreaking ceremony of a 6,000-capacity Edo Arena named after him by Governor Godwin Obaseki. Additionally, he paid homage to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, who presented him with a royal plaque ahead of the concert.
