The House of Representatives has urged Aliko Dangote, owner of the Dangote Refinery, to disclose the cost at which he is selling petroleum to NNPC Limited and other major marketers.

This call for transparency followed a motion moved by Oboku Oforji during a plenary session. The lawmakers also requested that NNPC reveal the amounts the refinery is paying for crude oil.

The resolution comes amid a dispute between NNPC Limited and Dangote Refinery over the per-litre cost of petrol. NNPC claims it is purchasing petrol at N898 per litre from Dangote, a figure the refinery disputes, asserting that it sells at a lower price.

To address distribution challenges, the House recommended that Dangote Refinery should "build, acquire or partner to get Tank Farms or depots across the geo-political zones in the country."

Oforji commended the refinery's impact on Nigeria's energy sovereignty, highlighting its role in driving towards "energy self-sufficiency, cost and foreign exchange savings, meeting the increasing demand for fuels, attraction of foreign capital investment, and generation of Forex through export of finished products."

The motion was adopted unanimously, with lawmakers emphasizing the need for Dangote Refinery to sell products directly to independent marketers to ensure sustainability.
