The House of Representatives Special Committee on Crude Oil Thefts has issued a stern warning to those involved in sabotaging the nation's critical resources.
Chaired by Alhaji Ado Alhassan Doguwa, the committee is determined to bring culprits to justice and halt the rampant theft and vandalism plaguing the oil and gas sector.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Doguwa emphasized the severe consequences for anyone caught engaging in these illegal activities.
"We cannot in any way afford to allow our Tinubu and the APC-led government to continue to wallow in global borrowing as a result of consequential leakages in the production cycle of the oil and gas sector," he stated.
The committee, mandated by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, aims to uncover both the immediate and underlying causes of crude oil theft and infrastructure vandalism.
Doguwa highlighted that youth restiveness and the "unacceptable vandalisation of our critical infrastructure by vandals and criminals in the creeks" are significant contributors to the problem.
"The committee vows to do all it takes to save the present Tinubu-led administration from these unfortunate happenings in the oil-producing areas.
We will make sure the committee brings to book the culprits and their political cohorts," Doguwa asserted.
