Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State is set to inaugurate the newly elected local government chairmen today, October 6, at 4:00 pm.

The ceremony will take place in the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt. This event marks a pivotal moment following the recent local government elections, where the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured a sweeping victory, winning 22 out of the 23 local government areas (LGAs).

The announcement of the swearing-in was made by Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, who stated, “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, will today Sunday, October 6, 2024, swear-in the newly elected Council Chairmen at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, by 4:00 pm.” The newly elected chairmen, along with one guest each, are expected to be seated by 3:30 pm.

This inauguration not only signifies the beginning of the new chairmen's tenure but also highlights a significant political shift within the state.
