An old video of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has recently gained renewed attention on social media.
In this clip, Wike vehemently criticizes the "godfather syndrome" prevalent in Nigerian politics, asserting that while it may be effective in Lagos State, it does not belong in Rivers State.
He firmly states, “If godfatherism work in Lagos, it will be impossible for it to work in Rivers. The day I finish my tenor, I pack my things and go. Rivers people will choose their Governor.”
This video has resurfaced amidst a political crisis in Rivers State, characterized by a power struggle between Wike and the incumbent Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The two political figures are embroiled in a battle over the leadership structure of the state, highlighting the ongoing challenges of political influence and control within the region.
