The Rivers State government, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, initiated a significant step towards addressing recent unrest by establishing a Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

This commission is tasked with investigating the arson, killings, and extensive property damage that occurred at local government council headquarters around October 7.

The formation of this commission is grounded in legal authority, specifically Section 2 of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

The commission is chaired by Justice I.R. Minakiri, with Inyingi Brown serving as Secretary. Other notable members include Felicia Nwoke, Professor Blessing Didia, Samuel Egbe, and Venerable Alex Usifor. Uzor Ikenga has been appointed as counsel to the commission.

The swearing-in ceremony for the commission members is scheduled for October 8, at 4 p.m., taking place at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
