The Senate has officially approved the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, amounting to ₦288 billion, with a primary focus on infrastructure development.

This decision was made during a plenary session held on Thursda. The approval followed the adoption of the harmonized report from the Joint Committees on the FCTA and FCT Area Councils. The budget proposal, initially presented on Monday, outlines both revenue and expenditure totaling ₦288 billion.

According to Sen. Mohammed Bomai (APC-Yobe), Chairman of the Joint Committee, the committee "critically examined the sources of the revenue of the proposed supplementary budget" and reviewed the proposed expenditures, which include overhead and capital costs.

Bomai highlighted that a substantial 89.21% of the supplementary revenue is allocated to capital projects, while only 10% is designated for overhead. He urged the Senate to consider and pass the recommendations of the committee on the 2024 FCT supplementary appropriation bill.

Following this, the Senate referred the bill to the committee of supply for a clause-by-clause consideration, which led to its eventual approval.

Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano), who presided over the plenary, commended the joint committee for their expeditious processing of the bill. He also praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in internal revenue generation and infrastructure development within the FCT.

Jibrin encouraged other government appointees to emulate the FCT Minister's dedication to revenue generation for the overall development of the nation.
