The Nigerian Senate took a step towards enhancing the nation's educational landscape by approving the establishment of two new federal universities.

The legislative body passed bills for the creation of the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State, and the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.

This decision followed a thorough review by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, as detailed in the report presented by Senator Dandutse Mohammed (APC, Katsina South).

The establishment of the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro represents an upgrade from the existing Federal Polytechnic in the town.

This initiative was spearheaded by Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), who had previously introduced the bill during the 9th Senate. Meanwhile, the Federal University of Applied Sciences, originally proposed to be located in Manchok, was relocated to Kachia following recommendations from the committee.

This change was advocated by Senator Sunday Katung (PDP, Kaduna South). In addition to these educational advancements, the Senate also considered other pivotal legislation, including the South West Development Commission Bill and the South South Development Commission Bill.
