The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan from Ondo State as a Commissioner in the National Population Commission (NPC). This confirmation took place on September 26, 2024, following a thorough review and recommendation by the Senate's committee on National Identity Card and National Population.
Senator Abdul Ningi, who chairs the committee, presented the report to the Committee of the Whole, highlighting Iyantan's impressive credentials and her extensive public service record. "Based on the credentials made available to the committee and the public service pedigree of the presidential nominee, we recommend the confirmation of Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan," stated Senator Ningi.
The Senate then moved into a detailed clause-by-clause consideration before finalizing the confirmation. Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, emphasized the importance of teamwork within the NPC. "Mrs. Iyantan should join other commissioners and the Chairman of NPC to move the commission forward," Jibrin urged.
