Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has urged his colleagues to consider Ifeanyi Ubah's widow as his successor for the Anambra South Senatorial District.

This call comes in the wake of Mr. Ubah's untimely passing at the age of 52 in a London hospital after a brief illness in July.

Senator Ndume highlighted the historical precedent within Nigeria's legislative framework where widows and relatives have succeeded deceased senators.

He referenced notable instances such as Chuba Okadigbo and Oluremi Tinubu, who both took over their husbands' roles in the Senate. Ndume's proposal underscores a political tradition of familial succession, which he believes could ensure continuity and stability within the legislative process.

"The practice of allowing family members to step into these roles is not new," Ndume stated, emphasizing how personal ties have historically influenced political continuity in Nigeria.

This suggestion also touches on broader themes of gender representation in politics, potentially paving the way for increased female participation through such successions.
