Southern California experienced a seismic event when a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region.
The quake's epicenter was located approximately 2.5 miles south-southeast of Highland Park, near Los Angeles' Chinatown neighborhood.
Occurring at 12:20 p.m., the tremor was felt widely across the area, from L.A.'s westside to the Inland Empire.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake had a depth of 7.5 miles.
Initially reported as a magnitude 4.7, the quake sent shockwaves that were felt by hundreds of residents.
KTLA viewers reported feeling the shaking, with one Hollywood resident, Glen Walker, noting that the "whole building was shaking pretty good."
He added that the station’s engineering team was inspecting the building and “checking things out.”
In response to the earthquake, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) immediately activated its "earthquake mode."
This protocol involves deploying fire personnel from all 106 LAFD neighborhood stations to survey their districts for any damage to critical infrastructure or areas of local concern.
As of 1:45 p.m., no infrastructure damage had been identified within the LAFD service area.
