Tennis legend Serena Williams found herself at the center of rumors suggesting she had lightened her skin.

The buzz began after Williams shared a video from her daughter's school play, which led to numerous comments about a perceived change in her complexion.

Addressing these rumors head-on, Williams took to Instagram Live to set the record straight.

During the live session, she candidly explained the factors contributing to her appearance in the video. "And no, for you haters out there, I do not bleach my skin," Williams stated firmly, dismissing the claims as unfounded.

Williams elaborated that the apparent change in her skin tone was due to lighting conditions and stage makeup, as she had volunteered to help backstage at the event. She emphasized the natural effects of sunlight, saying, "There is a thing called sunlight and in that sunlight, you get different colours."

While addressing the rumors, Williams also touched on broader themes of personal choice and self-acceptance. She made it clear that although she respects individuals who choose to alter their skin, it is not something she would ever consider for herself. "I am a dark Black woman and I love who I am and love how I look," she affirmed, expressing pride in her natural skin tone.
