Oil marketers have voiced strong opposition to Dangote Refinery's position against the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol).
The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association (PETROAN), Bill Gillis-Harry, expressed his concerns during an interview on Channels Television.
He argued that no single entity should have the authority to dictate government policy regarding petrol imports.
Gillis-Harry emphasized the need for open competition in the industry, stating, "I don’t think any refiner or importer or retail outlet owners have the locus to ask the Federal Government to stop attending to any part of the business.
Every participant in the sector should be freely allowed to participate."
This criticism comes in the wake of reports that Dangote Refinery had approached an Abuja High Court seeking to annul petrol import licenses granted to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other marketers.
However, the Dangote Group has since clarified that the legal case has been rendered moot by subsequent events.
