The Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, was brutally killed by bandits after being abducted, tortured, and dehumanized.

The news of his death was confirmed on August 21, 2024, by Idris4Peace via his X handle. The announcement followed the release of a harrowing video by the bandits, showing the traditional ruler pleading for his life and desperately appealing to the government for assistance.
Bawa, who had been kidnapped along with his son and brother near Kwanar Maharba while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, was seen in the video with blood-stained clothes and chained hands and legs.
He implored, "I am seeking the help of the government. I am their servant, and I have served them for 74 years, including 45 years in government service." Despite his pleas, the government did not intervene in time to save him.

The bandits had initially demanded a ransom of ₦1 billion for the release of the victims. In the video, one of the gunmen could be heard dictating to the victims what to say, further emphasizing the dire situation they were in.
