Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry in a recent discussion on CBS Sports expressed his opinion regarding the 2024 Ballon d'Or award. He suggested that Manchester City's Rodri should be the recipient of this prestigious accolade over Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr.

Despite Vinicius Jr.'s impressive performance, including a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund, Henry highlighted the importance of recognizing the contributions of midfielders, which are often overlooked.
Henry's comments were made after observing Vinicius Jr.'s performance and considering Rodri's role as a pivotal player for Manchester City. Henry stated, "Rodri because I wanted the Xavi and the [Andres] Iniesta when they were performing, people forget about the midfielders and what they do and they’re the heart of the team and he was the heart of Man City." He acknowledged that while Manchester City did not win the Champions League, Rodri's success with Spain in the Euros was significant.
Henry also mentioned Vinicius Jr.'s less impressive showing at the Copa America, which influenced his preference for Rodri. However, he did concede that Vinicius Jr. is an outstanding forward, stating, "But is he a worthy winner? Yes. He’s outstanding. I keep on saying, for me, right now, as a forward, the best in the world so he deserves it."
