TikTok took major action to enhance user safety on its platform in Nigeria by removing over 2.1 million videos in the second quarter of 2024. This initiative was part of the company's ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and positive user experience, as detailed in its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
The report highlights that these removals accounted for less than 1% of the total videos uploaded in Nigeria during this period, underlining TikTok's proactive content moderation strategy.
A key aspect of this effort was the proactive removal of 99.1% of the violative content before any user reports, with 90.7% of these videos being taken down within 24 hours.
Globally, TikTok has been investing in advanced technologies to improve content understanding and risk assessment, which has massively reduced the need for human moderation.
In June 2024 alone, TikTok removed over 178 million videos worldwide, with 144 million of those removals facilitated through automated systems. This reflects TikTok's commitment to ensuring a safer digital space for its users both in Nigeria and globally.
