President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned N108 billion

for Nigeria's 36 states to tackle flooding and erosion.

This announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House in Abuja. The Vice President described the situation in Maiduguri as a "national calamity," highlighting the urgency and severity of the crisis.

Over 400,000 households have been displaced due to the floods in Maiduguri, with many residents still trapped on rooftops, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

"The President has shown his zeal, willingness, and commitment to partner with the states towards addressing these issues," Shettima stated. He further disclosed that President Tinubu had recently approved the release of N3 billion to each state to manage these challenges effectively. "This initiative ensures that all parts of the federation have buy-in and belonging," he added.

Receiving the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, Shettima commended his leadership, noting that despite nearly 70% of the members being newly sworn-in, the Speaker has maintained stability in the House.

"A harmonious relationship among the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary is very essential to sustain democracy in Nigeria," Shettima emphasized.

Tajudeen expressed solidarity with the affected communities, assuring that the National Assembly would provide necessary support. "We share your pains; we share your concerns; we are together in this from the beginning to the end," he said. "Insha Allah, it will come to pass, and people will go back to their normal lives and businesses as if it did not happen because we and you will make sure that we provide all the palliatives for them to regain their means of livelihood."
