President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
This appointment comes as Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the substantive Chief of Army Staff, is currently on leave.
The announcement was made through a statement by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga. Major General Oluyede, aged 56, brings a wealth of experience to this interim role. He and General Lagbaja share a long-standing professional relationship, having been coursemates in the 39th Regular Course.

Oluyede's military career spans over three decades, during which he has held numerous command positions. Notably, he served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna.
Oluyede's extensive operational experience includes participation in key missions such as the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) Mission in Liberia and Operation HADIN KAI in Nigeria's North East.
His service has been recognized with several honors, including the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award, the Corps Medal of Honour, and the Grand Service Star.
