President Bola Tinubu has vowed to protect Nigerian women from discrimination and violence through the implementation of gender-sensitive policies.
Speaking at the Empower-Her-Nigeria event on Tuesday, October 15, President Tinubu, represented by George Akume, emphasized the need for development and opportunities for women, ensuring they have access to justice.
"We recognize the challenges women face with limited access to education and healthcare, gender-based violence, and economic disparity," Tinubu stated. "This is imperative for us as a nation to together drive down development and create opportunities for women to thrive and succeed."
The event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs at the Presidential Villa, highlighted the ongoing efforts in Nigeria to promote gender equality and support women's rights.
Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA), also addressed the gathering, underscoring the bank's dedication to women's empowerment. He noted that "78% of our working capital loans are empowering these women-led and women-owned enterprises."

Elumelu further emphasized the importance of female participation in the economy, stating, "We have close to 50% female representation on our board, 40% of senior management roles are held by women, and an impressive 59% of our graduate management trainees are female."
