President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, to participate in the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit. This important gathering will take place from November 18 to 19, bringing together leaders from the world's top 20 economies, including the European Union and the African Union.

The summit, themed "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet," will focus on critical global issues such as the fight against hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, and sustainable development. Nigeria, under Tinubu's leadership, has been a strong advocate for these reforms, often highlighting its credentials as a contender for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Tinubu's participation comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently holds the G20 presidency. The Nigerian leader is expected to engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to advance Nigeria's socio-economic reforms. Accompanying him are key government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and other ministers responsible for livestock development, art, tourism, culture, creativity, agriculture, and food security.

This trip marks Tinubu's first visit to Brazil as President and his 31st international trip since taking office 17 months ago.
