Tinubu Urges APC Unity in Oyo to Reclaim State in 2027 Elections

F.Adenike

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, urging them to "close ranks" and work collaboratively to reclaim the state in the upcoming 2027 elections.

This appeal was made during the inaugural Lam Adesina annual lecture held in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday, November 12.

Represented by the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Tinubu emphasized the strategic importance of Oyo State within the progressive movement, stating that it is "too important to be missing among the progressive fold."

The event was attended by notable figures including former governors of Ekiti State, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as well as several senators and local leaders.

The APC has faced challenges in Oyo State, having lost control to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both the 2019 and 2023 general elections.

Tinubu's message highlighted the need for strategic efforts and cooperation among party members to honor the democratic ideals championed by former Governor Lam Adesina. He remarked, “To honour his memory, the Progressives in Oyo State must come together as one. You all must fight the fight and win the battle. Come 2027, Oyo State must return to the progressive fold.”

Senate leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, through Senator Shuaib Salisu, also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of rediscovering value systems that encourage responsible citizenship.
