Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has expressed deep concern over the escalating rivalries and lack of genuine camaraderie among gospel artists.
Speaking candidly before her performance, Alabi lamented the prevalence of "fake love" within the industry, highlighting how jealousy and competition have overshadowed the spirit of unity that should define gospel music.
Alabi urged her fellow senior artists to reflect on their legacy and spiritual responsibilities, emphasizing that their actions set a precedent for emerging talents.
"God will hold us accountable for these things," she warned, stressing the need for established artists to prioritize their spiritual mission over personal fame.
She pointed out that the negative behaviors exhibited by seasoned artists are being mirrored by newcomers, who are already engaging in backstabbing and rivalry.
"The bigger ones separated themselves from the up and coming. And yet the bigger ones still fight themselves again, what do you want those coming up to do?" Alabi questioned, urging for a change in behavior.
Her call to action is a reminder that the gospel music community must work collaboratively, fostering an environment of support and authenticity.
