Trump Pulls Out From Televised Election Interview on US Channel CBS

Esther

Report on Wednesday has it that former US President and Republican candidate in the upcoming November 5 presidential election, Donald Trump, has withdrawn from a scheduled televised interview on CBS's '60 Minutes.'

This development was confirmed by CBS through a statement on its X handle. The Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, is still set to appear as planned in the broadcast.

Trump's campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, clarified the situation, stating that although there were initial discussions about the interview, "nothing was ever scheduled or locked in." Cheung further criticized CBS for insisting on live fact-checking during the program, describing this requirement as "unprecedented."

The backdrop of this withdrawal includes heightened tensions between the US and Iran. Trump has accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of failing to prevent Iran's attacks on Israel. In response, the US has reaffirmed its commitment to defending Israel, with President Biden ordering US forces to aid in Israel’s defense against Iran.

This incident also follows a televised debate hosted by ABC on September 10, where Harris called for a second debate, but Trump indicated he did not intend to participate in any further debates. As the election date approaches, various predictions, including those from Primate Ayodele, suggest that Trump may face defeat if the election were held today.
