A drug trafficking operation was disrupted by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch in India.

Acting on a tip-off, authorities raided a rental flat in Shirke Building, Dharna Camp, Taloja, leading to the arrest of two Nigerian nationals, Onyeka Hillary Illodinso, aged 25, and Chidiebere Christopher Muoghalu, aged 40.

The raid uncovered a substantial cache of narcotics, including 2.42 kilograms of Mephedrone and 174 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of Rs 5.62 crore.

Senior Inspector Sandeep Nigade of the ANC stated, "The arrested individuals were residing in the flat despite their passports and visas having expired."

This violation of immigration laws has also implicated the flat owners, Ramesh Pawshe and Namdev Thakur, who are now co-accused for failing to provide necessary rental agreement documents to local authorities.

The arrested Nigerians have been remanded to police custody until November 19, while the flat owners will be summoned for inquiry.

This incident has sparked discussions about the negative impact such criminal activities have on Nigeria's international reputation.

It highlights ongoing issues related to drug trafficking, immigration violations, and the responsibilities of landlords in verifying tenant documentation in India.
