Report recently emerged that South African singer Tyla's self-titled debut album had been moved from the R&B category to the Pop category for the Grammy Awards.
This decision was made by the Recording Academy's R&B screening committee, which decided to reclassify the album from Best R&B Album to Best Pop Vocal Album. If nominated, Tyla would make history as the first African artist to compete in this category.

Tyla's album will face tough competition from notable artists such as Taylor Swift with "The Tortured Poets Department," Ariana Grande's "Eternal Sunshine," Billie Eilish's "Hit Me Hard and Soft," Chappell Roan's "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," and Sabrina Carpenter's "Short N’ Sweet."
Reacting to this change, Tyla expressed her excitement on X, stating, "I make it all." Her debut album follows her huge success in 2023 with the viral hit single "Water," which topped charts in 16 countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. The single also earned her a Grammy award for Best African Song Performance at the 66th Grammys.
