INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The city is shocked after finding the lifeless body of a missing woman on the near southeast side. However, the unsettling truth behind her tragic destiny is even more disturbing.
Francisco Valadez, 29, an Uber driver, has been arrested for the murder of 30-year-old Chanti Dixon. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced this shocking news on social media on Tuesday, leaving the community in disbelief.
Dixon's remains were discovered in a wooded area on Wagner Avenue on Monday afternoon, just a few blocks from where she was last seen. Authorities reported that she had sustained a gunshot wound.
According to a statement from IMPD, Dixon's mother disclosed that her daughter had requested an Uber ride after finishing her shift around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. The app's records showed that she took the ride to East Washington Street before re-entering the same vehicle to go back home to Earhart Street.
Upon interviewing Valadez, detectives found out that he was the Uber driver involved and was a person of interest. His initial account, alleging that a stranger had shot Dixon and they both fled the scene, quickly fell apart.
Further investigation indicated that Valadez had cleaned his car, and his mother confirmed he owned a firearm. When confronted, he changed his story several times before finally admitting to the atrocious crime.
In a sickening twist, Valadez confessed to shooting Dixon in the head while trying to engage in sexual activity with her. He then moved her body behind a concrete barrier and attempted to violate her corpse before leaving the location.
Valadez was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently detained in Marion County jail awaiting a court appearance.
A court date hasn’t been set.
IMPD Chief Bailey said in a press conference Tuesday that this homicide is “disturbing” and “disgusting.”
“You have to intervene when you know you can prevent violence,” Bailey said. “I am so sorry to (Ms. Dixon’s) family.”
Sade’ Batey, a close friend of Dixon’s, told News 8 that Dixon left a big impression on everyone in her life.
“Chanti BreSha Dixon. I am hurt and devastated (by) this happening. It hit so close to home and it hurts so bad,” Batey said. “She was goofy, she was happy, always laughing, always caring. She was a mom before anything, hardworking, and dedicated to her goals. She had such a big impression on all around her. I hate this happened. I’m still in disbelief, but I love you, girl, and forever will!”
