Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has finalized his coaching team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers,
Eguavoen, who was appointed as the interim head coach following the collapse of negotiations with German manager Bruno Labbadia due to tax-related issues, has selected Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogumodede as his assistants.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed these appointments, highlighting the extensive experience both assistants bring from their successful stints in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Ilechukwu, who recently led Enugu Rangers to an NPFL championship victory, and Ogumodede, who has qualified Remo Stars for continental football over the past two years, are expected to bolster the Super Eagles' technical bench.
Eguavoen's appointment marks his fourth tenure with the Super Eagles, having previously managed the team between 2005-2007, 2010, and 2022. His immediate task will be to prepare the team for the upcoming qualifiers against Benin Republic on September 7 in Uyo and Rwanda on September 10 in Kigali.
The NFF's decision to appoint Eguavoen came after stringent German tax regulations thwarted their agreement with Labbadia.
NFF President Musa Gusau explained, "We have been on the tax issue for the past three days. I told him clearly that there was no way the NFF will agree to offset the concomitant tax percentage on his salary that will be demanded by German tax authorities."
