Real Madrid have been dealt a major setback as midfielder Dani Ceballos has sustained a grade III sprain in his right ankle.
This injury, confirmed by the club on Monday, is expected to sideline the 28-year-old star for approximately six to eight weeks.
The injury occurred during Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Real Betis on Sunday evening, where Ceballos was handed his first La Liga start of the season.
The club's medical report stated, "Following tests carried out today on our player Dani Ceballos by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a grade III sprain affecting the ligaments in his right ankle. Pending evolution." This diagnosis means that Ceballos will miss crucial upcoming fixtures, including the start of the revamped Champions League.
Ceballos' injury adds to Real Madrid's growing list of sidelined players. Key midfielders Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga are also recovering from injuries, leaving the team's depth in midfield severely tested.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his concerns about the impact of the international break on his already depleted squad, stating, "The international break could do more damage before we resume our 2024/25 campaign."
