Yahoo Boy Jailed for Impersonating Music Star Flavour, Defrauding US Woman of $53,000

The Federal High Court has in Lagos sentenced Courage Ipaka to two years in prison for impersonating the Nigerian musician, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour N’abania.


Ipaka was found guilty of defrauding a United States citizen, Mrs. Yvelte Thompson, of $53,000. The my (EFCC) brought charges against Ipaka, who pleaded guilty.


The EFCC's investigation revealed that Ipaka had posed as Flavour, promising to organize music shows in the United States and receiving payments through Bitcoin wallets.


According to EFCC investigator Azibagiri Ekpar, "Ipaka impersonated Flavour by pledging to organise shows in the United States of America and receiving payment through his Bitcoin wallets."


Justice Dehinde Dipeolu, who presided over the case, stated, “Following the defendant’s guilty plea and upon reviewing the prosecution’s evidence against him, the court sentences Ipaka to two years imprisonment but with an option of a fine of N2 million.”


Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of N7.9 million, which was recovered from Ipaka, to be returned to Mrs. Thompson.
