Chelsea Football Club is considering a move from their historic Stamford Bridge stadium, driven by the need for expansion.
The current stadium, with a capacity of 42,000, no longer meets the ambitions of the club's new owners, who are committed to maximizing revenues and building one of the largest and best stadiums in the UK. According to reports from the UK Guardian, Chelsea has initiated discussions about relocating to Earls Court.
However, this potential move requires approval from the Chelsea Pitch Owners, who hold the freehold of Stamford Bridge and could block any attempt to leave. "The new owners are focused on creating a world-class facility that can accommodate more fans and generate higher revenue," an insider revealed.
"Expanding the current capacity is a key priority." An alternative plan under consideration involves a stand-by-stand rebuild of Stamford Bridge.
This approach would necessitate Chelsea playing at a temporary home, likely Wembley Stadium, for several years if they decide to knock down and rebuild parts of Stamford Bridge.
