Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has declared a significant legal victory after a protracted six-year battle with the Nigerian government. On October 7, Melaye announced that he had been acquitted of all 12 charges filed against him, marking the end of a tumultuous period that began in February 2018.

The legal saga centered around accusations that Melaye provided false information regarding an alleged assassination attempt on his life in 2017.

Specifically, he was accused of falsely implicating Edward Onoja, who was then the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in the plot. The case was fraught with delays, notably due to the passing of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, which necessitated its reassignment to Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital High Court in Maitama.
