Cristiano Ronaldo has openly criticized the decision to award the 2024 Ballon d'Or to Manchester City's Rodri, asserting that Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. was the rightful winner.

The Portuguese superstar, who himself has claimed the prestigious award five times, expressed his views during the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

Ronaldo stated, "Vinicius Jr. should have won the Ballon d'Or, in my opinion it was clear. It was unfair." His comments come after Rodri became the first Premier League player to win the Ballon d'Or since Ronaldo achieved the feat in 2008 with Manchester United.

Despite Rodri's instrumental role in Manchester City's domestic and European successes, including their historic four consecutive top-flight titles and Spain's Euro 2024 victory, Ronaldo believes Vinicius Jr.'s contributions were more deserving of recognition.

Vinicius Jr., who played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's La Liga and Champions League triumphs, was notably absent from the Ballon d'Or ceremony, reportedly due to being informed beforehand that he would not be receiving the award. Instead, he was honored at the Globe Soccer Awards as the Best Men's Player, a decision Ronaldo praised for its honesty.

The Ballon d'Or outcome has sparked debate, with some viewing Rodri's win as a testament to his exceptional performances, while others, like Ronaldo, argue that Vinicius Jr.'s achievements warranted the accolade.

The controversy has been further fueled by Real Madrid's decision to boycott the ceremony, highlighting the ongoing tensions surrounding the award.
