The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today, Monday, August 12, 2024.
This announcement was made by Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of National Office, at the WAEC headquarters in Yaba, Lagos State.
A total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 secondary schools across Nigeria participated in the examination.
The candidates comprised 902,328 males (49.73%) and 912,016 females (50.27%), who were examined in 76 subjects, comprising 197 papers. The examination was supervised by approximately 30,000 secondary school teachers.
The release of these results is a major milestone for many students seeking admission into higher institutions for the 2023/2024 academic session.
As Dr. Dangut noted, "In tune with our recent tradition, the results of candidates sitting the examination will be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper, while certificates will be printed and issued to schools in less than 90 days after the release of results."
The results are expected to brighten the chances of candidates applying to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Many candidates who wrote the examination did so as awaiting results candidates, and some institutions have already commenced their admission processes.
Additionally, WAEC has introduced digital certificates for the first time, which can be accessed on the digital certificate platform. Printed certificates will be issued to schools within 90 days of the results' release.
The release of the results was confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for school candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024."
