We are Collaborating with Local and Global Agencies to Apprehend Yahaya Bello - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria has intensified its efforts to apprehend former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who is currently a fugitive.

The anti-graft agency is working in collaboration with both local and international law enforcement agencies to ensure his arrest.

Bello faces a 19-count charge of money laundering, accused of diverting over ₦80 billion from the Kogi State Government's treasury.

Despite multiple attempts to bring him to court, Bello has evaded capture, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The EFCC has declared him a fugitive, emphasizing that he will be arrested wherever he is sighted.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC's head of media and publicity, reaffirmed the commission's commitment to bringing Bello to justice.

Speaking during an interview on News Central, Oyewale stated, "What the court of appeal is saying is just to amplify the position of the commission and also to establish the fact that we are focused on this matter.

As it is now, Yahaya Bello cannot come into the open. He cannot make himself available anywhere because he has become a fugitive, and we all know the instruments of the law anywhere he is sighted, he would be arrested."

The EFCC has been unable to bring Bello to court for arraignment as he has refused to appear six times, further stalling the legal process.

The commission remains unwavering in its focus to see Bello's case, and other ongoing investigations, through to the end. "He is hiding, he has gone underground. Every law enforcement agency, both local and international agencies are involved," Oyewale added.
