Russia has issued a stark warning regarding its military strategy in Ukraine. According to Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Moscow is prepared to employ "even stronger military means" if the United States and its allies persist in their current approach.

This statement was made during an exclusive interview with CNN, where Ryabkov emphasized that the geopolitical tensions today are more severe than those experienced during the Cold War.

Ryabkov criticized the West, particularly the United States, for what he perceives as a lack of restraint and an underestimation of Russia's determination to defend its national security interests. He stated, "Risks are high and they are growing, and that’s quite disturbing," highlighting the potential for further escalation.

The backdrop to these comments is the recent announcement by the Biden administration of a $725 million security assistance package for Ukraine.

This aid is intended to strengthen Kyiv's position as Russian offensives intensify. However, Ryabkov cautioned that the risk of military escalation should not be underestimated, suggesting that it largely depends on decisions made in Washington.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, Ryabkov mentioned the possible deployment of the nuclear-capable "Oreshnik" ballistic missile, which was previously used in attacks on Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure.

He showed the seriousness of the conflict by stating, "There will come a moment when we will see no other choice but to resort to even stronger military means."

Despite the dire warnings, Ryabkov noted that an immediate escalation is unlikely, but the trend towards increased military action is evident. He also addressed the possibility of peace talks, asserting that the positions of Russia and Ukraine remain incompatible at this time.

"Chances for a compromise at the moment are zero," he concluded, indicating a critical impasse in diplomatic relations.
