West Brom Breaks Unwanted 51-Year-Old Championship Record

West Bromwich Albion has set a new, albeit undesirable, record in the Championship by scoring the fewest home goals in the first seven matches of a season. The team managed only three goals at home, surpassing York City's previous record of four goals from the 1972/73 season. Despite this challenge, West Brom currently sits fifth in the Championship standings, thanks to their strong away performances.

The Baggies' struggles at home are evident, with six consecutive draws, including four goalless stalemates. Manager Carlos Corberan acknowledged the issue, stating, “We weren’t clinical in the game and in our final decisions, whether that be in front of goal, making the right pass or using the best option.” He emphasized the need for improvement, adding, “Every draw is different. We cannot be happy with a draw as West Bromwich Albion.”

While their home form has been lackluster, West Brom has excelled on the road, leading the league in away goals. Striker Josh Maja has been instrumental in this success, scoring seven of the team's twelve away goals, including a hat-trick against QPR. Maja is currently second in the race for the golden boot, trailing only Borja Sainz of Norwich City.

Defensively, West Brom has been solid, conceding just eight goals and maintaining an equal number of clean sheets. This defensive strength, combined with their away goal-scoring prowess, keeps fans hopeful for a return to the Premier League after a six-year absence.
