A woman named Ricki Smith from Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested in Evansville, Indiana, for attempting to steal a car with a child inside.
The incident occurred on a Friday morning when police responded to reports of a woman trying to enter parked cars on North Main Street.
According to an affidavit, Smith claimed that rapper Kanye West had "telegraphically" instructed her to commit the theft.
Police officials stated that Smith tried to get into a woman's vehicle as she was heading into a store. The car's owner, who was dropping her child off at daycare, intervened and pulled Smith out of the vehicle by her hair. Smith explained to investigators that she was traveling from Louisville to Evansville when her car broke down on Interstate 64, forcing her to hitchhike the rest of the way.
Authorities later discovered that Smith had wrecked her vehicle into trees off I-64, which led her to abandon it. When questioned about her actions, Smith alleged, "Kanye West told me telegraphically to steal the car."
She was subsequently arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail, facing charges of kidnapping and auto theft.
