Jurgen Klopp has openly criticized Erik ten Hag's handling of Jadon Sancho at Manchester United, particularly focusing on the decision to send the £80 million player out on loan.

Klopp, who is currently enjoying a year off in Paris after leaving Liverpool, expressed his disappointment with Ten Hag's approach, stating, "If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player.
I cannot just buy into that 'he's useless,' like other clubs did by the way—buying a player for £80 million and then sending him out on loan!"
Sancho, who joined Manchester United in 2021 for a hefty fee, struggled to find his form under Ten Hag. The situation escalated when Sancho was publicly criticized by Ten Hag for his training performances, leading to a sour relationship between the two. Eventually, Sancho was banned from matches and training sessions, and later sent on loan to Chelsea.
Klopp believes that managers should show more faith in their players, even when they are underperforming.

He remarked, "The manager should be behind the player. I cannot just buy into the player being useless, by the way, and I can't understand buying a player for £80m then sending him out on loan."
This criticism comes as Liverpool prepares to face Real Madrid in the 2024/25 Champions League, a competition Klopp knows well, having led Liverpool to the finals in 2018 and 2022, and winning it in 2019.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag, who has been managing Manchester United since 2022, faces increasing pressure as his team struggles in the new season.
