The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, on Saturday addressed religious leaders in Nigeria, urging them to actively participate in the fight against corruption.

During a meeting with a delegation from The Citizens Church for All Nations at the EFCC's headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of preaching honest messages to congregations.

He stated, "If we do the right things in our little spaces, Nigeria will be a better place." He highlighted the issue of individuals within churches living beyond their means, asserting that religious leaders are aware of such behaviors.

Olukoyede called on pastors and imams to "preach the truth to the people" and inform them about the dangers of corruption. He stressed the need for transparency and honesty within religious communities, warning against the perpetration of fraud under the guise of religion or divine grace.

He remarked, "We must come to that level where we will be able to speak the truth to the powers-that-be in our congregations."

The EFCC chairman also acknowledged the role of faith in the Commission's work, noting that both Christian and Muslim communities pray for the EFCC's success.

Pastor Dickson Iroegbu, representing the church delegation, expressed appreciation for the EFCC's efforts, stating, "We decided to celebrate you for the work you are doing for our nation and also pray with you because we are seeing all the efforts that you put in."
