You Ruled on Record as Most Corrupt, Apologize to Nigerians – Presidency Criticizes Ex President Obasanjo

Reports have emerged of a public exchange between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the current administration under President Bola Tinubu.

The confrontation was sparked by Obasanjo's remarks at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, where he criticized President Tinubu, referring to him as 'baba-go slow.' In response, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Public Communication and Orientation, issued a strong rebuttal.

Dare accused Obasanjo of having led one of the most corrupt administrations in Nigeria's history. He stated, "Former President Obasanjo is a man with a tremendous capacity for mischief and Nigerians know it," highlighting that Obasanjo's presidency was marked by huge corruption.

Dare further claimed that democracy suffered under Obasanjo's leadership, particularly criticizing his attempt to secure a third term and the alleged mismanagement of $16 billion intended for power generation projects.

This exchange reflects ongoing political tensions in Nigeria, with Dare dismissing Obasanjo's criticisms as "market noise" and emphasizing the current administration's focus on reform and development. The Yoruba proverb cited by Dare, “A o ki n wo ariwo oja, eniti a anba na oja ni a n wo,” signifies the administration's intent to remain focused on its agenda despite external criticisms.
