Enzo Zidane, the eldest son of legendary French footballer Zinedine Zidane, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29.
Enzo, who followed in his father's illustrious footsteps, began his career at Real Madrid's youth academy and later played for clubs such as Juventus, Aves, and Almeria. His final stint was with the Spanish third-tier side Fuenlabrada during the 2023/24 season.
Despite his early promise and eligibility to represent three national teams—Spain, France, and Algeria—Enzo's career did not progress as he had hoped. He briefly played for the Spanish Under-15 side before representing France at the U-19 level in 2014.
However, his journey through the ranks of European football left him feeling demoralized. According to reports, "the decision has been made out of his 'boredom' at not being able to find a new club."
In 2023, when Enzo moved to the Spanish third division, he had already made up his mind to quit football. By September 2024, he officially decided to hang up his boots. His family fully supports his decision, and he now plans to focus on his investments and spending time with his wife Karen and their three daughters.
While Enzo steps away from the sport, his younger brothers Luca, Theo, and Elyaz continue to pursue their football careers at Granada, Cordoba, and Real Betis, respectively.
